Ingredients

  • 1 Tablespoon Butter
  • 1 Onion Finely chopped
  • 2 Medium potatoes Peeled and cubed
  • 250 gram Green Beans Trimmed and cut into bite-sized pieces
  • Salt and Pepper To taste

Instructions

Boil Potatoes and Beans

  • In a large pot, add the cubed potatoes and green beans. Cover with water and add a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil and cook for about 10-12 minutes or until the potatoes and beans are tender when pierced with a fork.

Sauté Onions

  • While the potatoes and beans are cooking, heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the butter and allow it to melt. Add the chopped onions and sauté until they become translucent and slightly golden.

Mash and Combine

  • Once the potatoes and beans are cooked, drain them well and return them to the pot. Add the sautéed onions to the pot as well. Using a potato masher, mash the potatoes, beans, and onions together until well combined. You can mash them to your desired level of smoothness or leave them slightly chunky for texture.

Season and Serve

  • Season the mashed mixture with a generous amount of salt and freshly ground black pepper. Adjust the seasoning to your taste. Give everything a good stir to evenly distribute the seasoning. Serve the mashed potatoes and beans warm as a side dish. They pair well with a variety of main courses.

Notes

Optional Additions:
  • Feel free to add herbs like chopped parsley, thyme, or rosemary for added flavor.
  • You can also sprinkle grated cheese on top for a cheesy twist.
